Sleeping Child Valley is named after a native legend about laying a baby to rest beside the creek. The Sleeping Child Schoolhouse is the only building in the valley with the Sleeping Child name in the title. The Sleeping Child Planning group has been maintaining the schoolhouse for 25 years, but it was time for more substantial improvements.
Using MHF funds, the Sleeping Child Planning Group was able to reinforce the foundation, replace siding, address window concerns, adorn a new bell in the bell tower, secure the roof, and repair the plastered walls. The school is used for community gatherings and is an important historical location for the Sleeping Child Valley.
