World Museum of Mining – Quong Fong Laundry

Immigrants were an essential part of the mining operations in Montana. In Butte, the Chinese population was largely in charge of the laundry services and were experts in herbal remedies for the miners. Quong Fong Laundry and A. Quon Herb Company are two examples of the influence the Chinese had in Butte.

Using MHF funds, the World Museum of Mining stabilized and preserved the laundry and herb company buildings. The foundations and roofs were secured and new paint was applied to seal the walls from water intrusion. The exhibits contain almost 400 artifacts from the original laundry and herb shops in Butte.
