Montana Heritage Commission – Richards Cabin

The Richards Cabin in Nevada City dates back to 1863. The Richards were experienced miners and worked at prospecting, freighting and selling goods to others. The cabin and addition that they utilized were built with hand hewn logs, dovetail joints and straight gable roof.

The Montana Heritage Commission used MHF funds to replace the rotting roof of the Richards cabin with new wood and sod. The Richards cabin is used as part of Nevada City’s living history project promoting education through hands-on learning.
