
Multi Year Grants
2026 Multi-Year Collaborative Grants
We’re pleased to announce a new grant opportunity for multi-year, multi-organizational projects, available exclusively to our past grant recipients. Each grant will provide up to $15,000 per year for a three-year period, totaling up to $45,000 over the life of the project.
These grants are in addition to our regular annual grant cycle for one-year projects.
Details and Eligibility
Qualified applicants may submit a letter of intent by 5:00pm Friday, November 21, 2025.
Applicants will be notified within two weeks if they are invited to complete a full application.
Full applications are due by 5:00pm on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Applicants not invited to complete a full application may still apply for a one-year grant project. Those applications are also due Friday, January 16, 2026, by 5:00pm.
Applicant organizations must have successfully completed at least one grant project with The Foundation for Montana History between 2014-2025. Organizations with an open Foundation grant are not eligible to apply.
The applicant organization must be a nonprofit tax-exempt organization (IRS designation) or an exempt governmental unit
Projects must demonstrate meaningful partnerships (including funding allocations) with 2 or more community-based organizations to be eligible. For example, if the applicant is a museum, the project might include partnerships with a local school, senior center, community development organization, or tourism office.
A commitment letter from each partner organization is required with the full application.
Applicants must provide a 25% match (this can include volunteer time).
Timeline:
Collaborative awards will be announced in early April 2026.
Progress reports updated budgets will be required annually.
