Travelers’ Rest Preservation & Heritage Association – Holt Native American Collection

Travelers’ Rest State Park receives 29,000 visitors a year who come to see the exhibits’ 200 original Native American and Western frontier artifacts. However, most of the artifacts are undocumented, which is why the Montana History Foundation funded the Travelers’ Rest Preservation and Heritage Association to revitalize its artifact collections. With a MHF grant, significant objects from the Holt Collection were reinstalled, an exhibit featuring archeological artifacts from the Lewis and Clark expedition was moved, and interpretative panels were installed.

Parks and exhibits sustain local and state tourism, so not only does MHF grant money honor history, it is also an investment in Lolo’s local and Montana’s state economies.
