Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, “Archival and Collections Management Training”, Pablo, $14,500 Grant: CSKT Three Chiefs Culture Center will use grant funds to purchase archival supplies for collections preservation, conduct onsite training for Three Chiefs Curation Technician Grey Johnson, and digitize photographs that survived the 2020 fire. Columbia Falls Historical Society, “Oral Histories,” Columbia Falls, $8,000 Grant: The Columbia Falls Historical Society will record approximately 20 oral history interviews with elderly community members on various historical topics. Friends of Ninemile, “Restoration of the Historic Mule Hauler”, Huson, $13,266 Grant: Friends of Ninemile will use grant funds to support the restoration of a historic mule hauler truck, used to transport mule strings, firefighters and their gear to forest fires across Montana. Nine Mile Community Center, “Historic Stark School Outhouse Preservation” Frenchtown, $7,185 Grant: Funds will help preserve the two distinct outhouses located on the rural school grounds. Interpretive signage will also be included to help visitors and school groups understand what it would have been like for students in 1915. Preservation of these structures is vital to maintain the remaining integrity of the grounds, enhancing the historic context of this 110 year-old school property.
Como Schoolhouse, “Historical Preservation of Schoolhouse Windows”, Darby, $3,258: The historic Como Schoolhouse, constructed in 1902, will restore and preserve its original windows. This project will help maintain the building’s structural integrity and ensure the schoolhouse remains an accessible community gathering place for years to come. Missoula Art Museum, “Institutional History and Collection Digitization Phase 2”, Missoula, $10,000 Grant: Funding supports continued digitization of MAM’s exhibition records, creating stable digital surrogates and standardized metadata to help historians, researchers, and the public better understand the role of the arts in Montana’s cultural history. Ninepipes Museum, “Voices that Shaped the Ninepipes Museum,” Charlo, $8,800 Grant: Heading into year 3 of their multi-year award, the Ninepipes team has created a downloadable curriculum guide that provides educators with four place-based lessons built around the Resonance oral history podcast series which focuses on community members connections to artifacts in the museum. The team is now piloting the curriculum in local schools. After their classroom experience, the students will take a trip to the museum to view the items they heard about in the podcasts and expand their understanding of Montana history. USDA Forest Service, “Savenac Historic Tree Nursery, East Cottage Stabilization”, Haugen, $12,000 Grant: The Lolo National Forest will maintain the historic characteristics and repair the foundation and concrete steps to the East Cottage at the Historic Savenac Tree Nursery which is open to the public and a part of an informative historical walking tour.
