Arriving in 1884, the Fryers are recognized as one of the original founding families of Livingston and Park County. Their business specialized in photograph development, books by local authors, a notary office, stationary, and gifts, and was an unofficial repository for local history for over a century. In addition, the Whithorn photo collection and illustrated histories visualized Park County history. The Fryer and Whithorn collections documented aspects of life in Park County and the surrounding areas from 1884 through modern times.
The Yellowstone Gateway Museum used MHF funds to acquire, process and archive part of the Fryer and Whithorn collections, and make the material available to genealogists, students, authors, scholars, historians, and a diverse swath of community members including business owners, home owners, visitors, and residents.
